This close up does make a difference as far as the color in the fields is concerned. Here it works most effectively. In fact this could have been the painting itself. There is no need for all of the other support information on the larger painting. The tree at the left side of the picture effectively ends the painting there. There is just enough of that distant field to indicate something is happen back there. The position of the barn in this cropped area is perfect. There is enough greenery and trees on the right horizon to make that part of the painting recede. The shade and the shadow are doing what they need to do to make the painting work. Maybe I should redo this piece again only larger? I don’t think so. We discussed this in class once about redoing something. No matter how hard you try you can’t repaint something. It just doesn’t work and for one reason your mind was thinking of how to resolve the problem in front of you the first time around. You can’t have that same feeling the second time because you have already solved the problem so it’s old hat.
