Close up just to see the intricacy of the colors. Study what is used here. One of the best ways to get a painting to look good is the proper use of lights and darks. I have just found that out when I had a painting published for an add for a gallery that I am in. The owner strongly suggested that I find a painting with a lot of contrast in it. I don’t paint that way and there are a lot of other artists that don’t either and by the way have had great careers.
