I’ve added reflections in the water to make the distant shore line look further away. Also I’ve lightened the shore line to create distance.
The left bank trees have some color now. I used very dark pastel greens (Unison or Sennelier) to create a good base color. I’ll add lighter greens, browns, yellows, reds later to add interest. I don’t use black any more it flattens the painting and if you use the right colors I can create a much better black than using black outright.
You can make black by using your darkest Blue, Green and Red. Try it. Start by laying down blue then green then red on one spot and make it large enough so you can see the colors mix and change. Next in a different circle try this order using the same colors by laying down green, red and then blue, then next try red, blue then green and see what happens and which one you need. They all work sooner or later for an application in a painting. Do each example in three different places. Pastel painters work from dark colors to light colors while water color artist work from light to dark and we are all using the same pigments. Pastels are dry and Water Color paints are wet. It’s not complicated just confusing.
