This painting will be called “My River”. It will be painted on Archival Museum Grade Wallis Sanded Paper. It is anchored with archival tape to Archival Foam Core board which is a backing for the paper. Note: I do not use the Professional Grade Wallis Sanded Paper because it does not accept washes as well as the Museum Grade paper.
The first thing I did was to determine where the horizon will be which may be adjusted during the painting process.
Next I did a quick sketch with the hardest pastels I have and then I used some softer pastel to lay on splotches of color which will be washed with Weber Turpenoid. (Only use the Blue and White can of Turpenoid, do not use the Green and Orange color can ever because it is citrus based and does not dry correctly). You can also use water or denatured Alcohol as a wetting agent too.
I’ve taped both sides of the paper down to keep the paper in place while I’m working on the painting. I use 3M’s Scotch #230 Drafting tape because It doesn’t stick to the foam backing board or the paper.
