This photo is washed out unfortunately but it does show the extreme brightness of the Wallis Archival Museum paper that I use. Here I have put down a sketch of hard pastels. Note I didn’t cover the canvas but just used splashes of colors. I will use a 1” wide inexpensive hardware bought paint brush to create a wash and for the wash I will use Gamsol or Denatured alcohol, or Weber’s Turpenoid (Blue and White can). Do not use the Orange and Green Weber’s Turpenoid as it is citrus based and will not dry properly. When doing the wash don’t be afraid of being firm with the strokes. Dainty doesn’t work… All you’re doing is TONING the surface you’ll paint on.
